Energy Intuitive

Is there an easy way to remember when the energy is conserved and where the momentum is conserved in dyanamics problems

I always get those two mixed up. As far as I can remember, energy is conserved when conservative forces (such as with gravity.) momentum conservation is good for as impulsive forces during impact. An intuitive understanding of the difference between these two is a bit sketchy for me sometimes. I do remember that energy is transferred to heat in the presence of friction, so that power can be kept there. Any thoughts? Correction: Energy is always conserved. It's just that mechanical energy is always conserved. Sometimes it is converted to heat as friction.

You said, if you have strengths and all that, you have a problem of energy conservation. If you have a crash stuff, then this is a problem of conservation of momentum. If you have both situations, then you have both the momentum conservation and energy problem. Until you memorize the formulas there is nowhere to be lost, just plug the numbers. I do not see how you on two of them. In fact, what most people find difficult is to external forces acting on objects. Momentum and energy are always preserved, just look at the whole picture. If you have external forces, you can always make energy and the problems dynamics, but you must take into account external forces. Say for example you have a car struck the break to avoid a collision with another, but it does anyway. The problem is conservation of energy until the moment before hitting another car. At the moment they enter collide, it becomes a problem of conservation of momentum. And then it will be a conservation of energy again more until all movement stops.
